STEM at Sea is a hands-on learning cruise for curious kids and their grown-ups, blending science, engineering, history, art, music, practical skills and interactive activities with the magic of family travel. Families will explore, play and learn together through themed classes, beach meetups, bedtime stories, a group book exchange and real-world adventures at sea and in port.
The program began with the idea of You and Me at Sea and STEAM at Sea, focused on early childhood learning, caregiver connection and screen-free family enrichment. It has now grown into STEM at Sea, a family-focused educational cruise experience led by Mouse Wife Adventures aboard Royal Caribbean.
The first sailing is planned for February 25 to March 2, 2027 on Harmony of the Seas from Port Canaveral. This sailing will explore science, engineering, history, art and music through immersive family-based activities, with special features including a guest from NASA, Kindermusik, Root & Wonder and a Queen’s Staircase experience in Nassau with the Bahamian Historical Society.
The heart of the program is playful learning. Activities may include buoyancy experiments, build-a-boat challenges, music and movement, art projects, beach exploration, sandcastle physics, bedtime stories, family dinners and optional cultural or historical field trips. Families will also be invited to bring an old book from home to help create a small group library exchange during the sailing.
The mascot, Shami, represents Science, History, Art, Music and Interactive learning. Shami, along with Higgs, helps bring the program to life in a fun, kid-friendly way that makes learning feel like an adventure instead of a classroom assignment.
A sample agenda includes a welcome dinner on Day 1, a CocoCay beach day with optional sandcastle and nature activities on Day 2, a sea day with science programming on Day 3, Nassau exploration with an optional historical field trip on Day 4, a final sea day with farewell activities on Day 5 and optional breakfast together before disembarkation on Day 6.
At its core, STEM at Sea is about giving families a meaningful vacation that feels fun, connected and educational. It is a cruise where kids can ask questions, grown-ups can join the adventure and everyone can leave with new memories, new friendships and a little more wonder about the world.
STEM at Sea works like a regular family cruise, but with special optional breakout activities created just for our group.
You still get the full Royal Caribbean cruise experience, including dining, entertainment, ports, pools, shows and kids clubs. The difference is that our group will also have exclusive programming woven into the sailing. On sea days, we will offer optional family-focused sessions that may include science, engineering, art, music, hands-on learning activities and themed experiences designed for kids and their grown-ups to enjoy together.
At the ports, we will also have optional group meetups or activities that connect to the destination, whether that is beach exploration, cultural learning, history or just spending time together as a group.
This is not a drop-off program and we will not be providing childcare. The sessions are designed for caretakers and children to participate together. Royal Caribbean does offer kids clubs on board for families who want adult time during the cruise, but STEM at Sea itself is all about shared learning, connection and making memories together.
We will also have group dining with like-minded families who believe vacations can be fun, meaningful and educational. It is a chance to meet other caregivers and littles who value hands-on learning, curiosity and togetherness.
In the evenings, we plan to include wind-down moments like bedtime stories, plus a group book exchange library where families can bring an old book from home and swap with others during the sailing.
This is the very first version of this program and my hope is to grow STEM at Sea into something families treasure, return to and look forward to experiencing again in new destinations.
